It's a first edition
but look at those key signatures
Our maternal grandfather, whose relatively short life was comprised in the first half of the last century, died long before I was born. He played the violin, you see. When I outgrew the 1/2 size violin, sometime in the mid-1970s, Grandma got his violin out of her attic with whatever was with it. This horrific scale book somehow survived, was duly indexed in my collection, and CHOSEN out all my scale books by my new teacher. I’m starting over again, for the fourth time, I think, counting 2nd grade as the first.
That violin, which I still have around somewhere, is, well, it is not a very good violin. But I played it all through high school and beyond until I started my professional career, accumulated enough for a down payment on a house, bought the house, and built up another, smaller, sum, for a better violin.
My new teacher flipped to the front of the book, noted the publication date, said “It’s a first edition!” and we were off. She is a little hardcore, I think. We’ll get along fine.

The F# Major is what jazz musicians refer to as a "non-union key".
Db major is not quite as bad.
